RAce Timing
Timing your race is up to you, and it's totally optional. If you want to throw your name in the hat for the prize drawing on Thursday for "Beat the Lungman" day, you'll need a screenshot of a timing app to post. We use apps like Nike+, MapmyRun and Strava.
Daily Prize Drawings
Complete the task of the day by 7pm to be eligible for the daily prize drawing for a $25 gift card of your choice.
Most tasks involve interacting with our Lungbuster Facebook page, so make sure you've liked and followed us there.
Completion of the 5k will be reported via a Google form.

October 18: Run "witH" Friends day
Join us in running or walking in the 9:00 hour on Sunday, October 18th to kick off Lungbuster week. Even though we won't be gathering all participants together to tackle the same hill, we can all be together by moving at the same time! Post a picture, video or live stream, of you participating in our virtual walk/run during the 9:00 hour, or running/walking with a friend at another time in the day, to our Lungbuster Facebook page. Your post must be up by 7:00pm to be eligible for our prize drawing. |
October 19: Spread awareness
If you're a past participant in the Lungbuster, you probably already know just how deadly lung cancer can be. Today's challenge is to spread the word about the deadliest cancer with the least amount of funding to your friends and family.
Share the lung cancer fact graphics from our Lungbuster Facebook page, or tag friends in a comment on one of the graphics by 7pm to receive an entry in the day's prize drawing. |
October 20: PUSH YOURSELF DISTANCE CHALLENGE
What's your usual distance when you head out for a walk or a run?
Today's challenge is to push yourself to go further. If you usually walk a mile, walk two. If you usually run 3 miles, run 4. Post a picture, video or livestream from your personal distance challenge by 7pm to be eligible for this night's drawing. |
October 21: What's your biggest hill?
We all have hills to climb, but are they big enough to be called a real 'lungbuster'?
Post a screenshot of your run route that shows your hill elevation to be eligible in today's prize drawing. Run must have been completed during race week, so no earlier than October 18th. If your elevation is equal to or exceeds the elevation of our lungbuster hill (313 feet), you'll get a double entry into the drawing. |
October 22: Beat The Lungman
The Lungman will be out in full regalia on Saturday, October 18th. He will be timing his 5k run on the 2019 race course, and will post a screenshot of his Strava app showing his run time.
Just like during our in person race, we give the Lungman a handicap, and will hold him back from starting until every participant has crossed the start line. We will hold him back 5 seconds for each person entered in the virtual race. If you can beat his 5k time, post a screenshot of your 5k finish time from your app of choice to earn an entry into the drawing. Run must have been completed during race week, so no earlier than October 18th. |
October 23: Be a Good Sport
We're almost to the finish line, time to spread the love among your fellow racers. Visit the Lungbuster Facebook page and give a virtual high-five or pat on the back by commenting on another participant's race post with the hash tag #GoodSport. Comments must be up by 7pm and include #GoodSport to be eligible for this night's prize drawing. |
October 24: 5k Finisher!
On the last day of the race we'll be drawing from among all of the 5k finishers.
It doesn't matter if you finished on the first day or the last, if you complete your 5k in one day or over several, if you climbed a mountain or a molehill or whether you traveled on roads, trails or treadmills. If you completed a 5k distance of 3.1 miles during our race week, you are an eligible finisher! Be sure to record your 5k finish using our Finish Form by 7:00pm on Saturday, October 24th. |
